Frequently Asked Questions

Which countries does this gratuity calculator cover?
This calculator covers India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain. Each country uses a different law and formula — we calculate each one correctly based on the published legislation that applies in your country.
Is gratuity the same as end-of-service benefit or indemnity?
Yes. "Gratuity," "end-of-service benefit," "EOSB," and "indemnity" (used in Kuwait) all refer to the same payment — the lump sum your employer must pay when your employment ends. The name varies by country but the concept is identical.
Do I get gratuity if I resign, or only if I am fired?
It depends on the country. In UAE (limited contracts post-2022), Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain, resigning does not reduce your gratuity — you get the full amount after completing the minimum service. In Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, resigning means you get a reduced amount based on your years of service — not zero. This calculator shows you an estimate of what applies to your situation.
Does my housing allowance count in the gratuity calculation?
Only in some countries. UAE, Qatar, and Oman use basic salary only — housing and transport allowances are excluded. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait include regular fixed allowances in the calculation base. India uses basic salary plus Dearness Allowance (DA — a cost-of-living adjustment paid by employers). This calculator applies the correct rule automatically.
How many years do I need to qualify for gratuity?
In most GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries — UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain: 1 year of continuous service. In India: 5 years (or 4 years and 240 working days, which courts have accepted as sufficient). Fixed-term contract employees in India qualify after 1 year from November 2025 under the Social Security Code 2020.
My employer is offering me less than this calculator shows. What should I do?
Enter your employer's offer in the "Is My Offer Fair?" section above. The calculator shows you the exact gap and gives you specific questions to ask HR, plus the official complaint authority for your country. Do not sign any final settlement document until the numbers match.
Is my salary data stored anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. We do not collect, store, or see your salary, employment dates, or any personal details. Your data stays on your device the entire time.
Can I use this calculator result in a dispute with my employer?
Yes — as a reference point. The calculator applies the published labour law formula for your country, with the law name and article number shown in your result. Many workers screenshot the result or use the demand letter to bring to HR meetings. The result is an estimate based on the details you enter — consult your country's labour authority if your employer disputes the amount.
What if I worked in multiple countries, or had a break in service?
Gratuity is calculated separately per employer and per country. Service does not transfer between employers or across borders. If you worked in UAE for 3 years and then Saudi Arabia for 5 years, you calculate each separately. Use this calculator once for each employer and country combination.
How often is this calculator updated?
We review all country formulas quarterly. Recent updates: Oman (Royal Decree 53/2023 — July 2023 split calculation), Bahrain (SIO system from March 1, 2024), India (Social Security Code 2020, effective November 2025). The review date is shown below each country's result.
